From sewing skills to financial literacy, youth at Covenant House get the chance to learn valuable life skills. Last year alone, youth participated in 540 life skills workshops.

This year, we introduced a new angle: youth-led workshops.  Maya, Covenant House’s occupational therapist, explains: “It’s really empowering for youth running the workshop, as well as youth attending, to see a peer in that kind of leadership role.”

The workshops have been a hit! One young man held sessions on making nutritious breakfasts. Another youth initiated a knitting workshop. And two young people led a discussion on healthy relationships. As Maya notes, “This approach fully engages youth to teach the type of life skills they think are important. They are so passionate and excited to share.”
