Sleep Out 2016

On Nov. 17, 2016, seventy of the city’s top business and community leaders slept out and raised more than $1 million for homeless kids at Covenant House. With only a sleeping bag and cardboard, participants in the fourth annual Covenant House Executive Sleep Out spent the night on the cold pavement in freezing temperatures.

Led by Honorary Co-Chairs Jeffrey Orridge, CFL commissioner and Kirstine Stewart, Chief Strategy Officer for Diply, participants included Paul Rivett, Fairfax Financial president, Doug Mizzi, TJX Canada president, Amanda Lang, journalist, Police Chief Mark Saunders, and Event Committee Chair Mike George, president, Trisura Guarantee Insurance Company.

During the evening, the group toured the house, the neighbourhood and sleepers returning for their third year attended a panel discussion on issues facing homeless youth. They also sat down for discussions with current and former youth.

The local effort was part of an international event that happened simultaneously at 15 other Covenant House sites across North America, including Vancouver.
