National anti-trafficking hotline

Youngtraffickingvictim_thumbYou did it! Last summer, over 18,000 supporters signed our petition asking the federal government for a national anti-human trafficking hotline. Earlier this year, the government announced that The Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline would launch this fall.

Our community partners at The Centre to End Human Trafficking are building the infrastructure for the hotline that will play a vital role in combatting this heinous crime.

Sex trafficking is the most common form of human trafficking in Canada. Most victims are female, Canadian citizens. The average age of sex trafficked victims is 17, and some have been as young as 13.

The government has pledged $14.5 million over the next five years to the hotline. Along with a 24/7 multilingual phone line for both victims in crisis and others who have crime tips, there will be an online portal and a referral system for legal and social services.

The hotline will work closely with other social services and law enforcement across the country to provide a comprehensive, integrated response to both serve victims and stop traffickers.

With your support, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of our most vulnerable youth. We will continue to advocate for young trafficking victims, as well as homeless and at-risk youth, at all levels of government on issues that affect them.
