The young people who come to Covenant House Toronto need caring support in order to transition to independence. Youth who have experienced abuse and neglect often lack the necessary life skills to thrive on their own.

This is where Maya Stein comes in. As the new occupational therapist at Covenant House, Maya provides the expertise and guidance necessary for youth to reach their individual goals. From life skills to art to education, she offers one-on-one sessions and group activities.

“Occupational therapy is not just limited to your job or ‘occupation’,” Maya explains, “It instead refers to the broader root term ‘occupy’. My role is to help each young person discover how they can meaningfully occupy their time.”

Maya’s integrity and warmth has made her a valuable influence: with her support, youth can rebuild their confidence as they explore their options.
