Perdiem Youth Worker, Supported Housing Program
Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

As Canada’s largest agency serving at-risk, homeless and trafficked youth, Covenant House Toronto changes lives by providing the widest range of services and support to as many as 300 youth a day. A national leader, we educate and advocate for change by influencing public policy and delivering prevention and awareness programs.
More than a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing on-site and in the community, along with comprehensive services including education, counselling, health care, employment assistance, job training and after-care.
Our doors are open to youth 16 to 24 regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or the circumstances that have brought them to our doors. Since opening our doors in 1982, Covenant House has served more than 95,000 young people.

The Per Diem Youth Worker position will be responsible to support and implement Covenant House’s principles, program philosophies and policies. The individual will be a part of the Human Trafficking team, assisting with specialized day to day care and counselling to the young women residing in the Rogers House. They will be able to work well in a dynamic work and team setting. The Youth worker will be expected to work in an off-site program of Covenant House Toronto. This is a remarkable opportunity for a female youth worker who seeks professional and personal challenge. Applicants will be expected to commit to a minimum of 4-6 shifts per Month. These will be a combination of Day/Evening and Overnight awake shifts.

•To provide ongoing assessment of participants needs and to provide support through a trauma informed framework/lens.
•To respond with Crisis Intervention in situations of physical confrontation, and medical and psychiatric emergencies for youth who have recently experienced trauma
•To actively assist participants with daily routines such as laundry and housekeeping and weekend meal preparation
•To actively participate in weekly CMT’s; preparing and presenting case notes and plan updates and assisting in the initial development of plans
•To support the CMT in coordinating case plans with all relevant service areas within the agency; liaising with external social service organizations
•To create and maintain participant files: participants binders, daily PDN’s, EOI’s and outside community agencies
•To support the pursuits of Research and Evaluation; will include accurate interface with ETO
•To work and maintain the Sanctuary and safety of the House for 6 youth and staff

•Minimum Child and Youth Work Diploma plus 2 years’ experience in a residential setting or equivalent education and experience
•UMAB, First Aid, CPR, Naloxone, ASIST and basic computer skills
•Proven competency with trauma informed care practices and needs of this specialized population of youth
•Knowledge and understanding of adolescent development theory and specific issues related to at risk youth and complexities surrounding the human trafficking experience.
•Knowledge and understanding of Trauma informed practices, Resiliency theory, Reflective practice and Stages of Change as these relate to this specialized population
