New corporate challenge raises $370,000 plus to help homeless youth

TORONTO, ON, February 25, 2016 – Nineteen teams raised more than their heart rate last night at the first-ever Covenant House Guts + Glory Corporate Challenge for a total of over $370,000 to help homeless youth.

Teams of six participants from the banking, legal and media sectors tackled 10 challenges that tested speed, agility, strength and power over two hours at the Moss Park Armoury. These ranged from rope climbs to relays and hurdles. Fundraising counted for one-third of their scores as they went for a championship trophy and endless bragging rights. A team of Covenant House youth also competed.

Team Blackstone took first place overall while Team Timbercreek 1 placed second, followed by Team National Bank.

“We are thrilled by the response we got from business people who were up for the competition,” says Bruce Rivers, Covenant House executive director. “It is so heartening to see that people want to get behind our kids as they strive for a better future. They certainly set the bar high for next year.”

The new event is the highlight of this February’s Covenant House Month, designated to raise awareness of youth homelessness and much-needed funds to support the agency’s work.
